Books: Stay Hungry Stay Foolish by Rashmi Bansal

Stay Hungry Stay Foolish
Just started reading Stay Hungry Stay Foolish by Rashmi Bansal. The title of the book, ‘Stay Hungry Stay Foolish’ is a quote by Steve Jobs, advising the entrepreneurs.
The book is on entrepreneurship of alumni of IIM Ahmedabad. The author is also from IIMA. Just managed to complete the first story about Naukri.com – aptly titles as ‘the book of Job’ – if you are familiar with bible, this sums up the story of naukri.com
I always have a high regard for Sanjeev as the first successful internet entrepreneur from India.
Some interesting facts about Sanjeev:
- Started his company (Infoedge) in the servant’s quarter of his father.
- The ‘angel investor’ – his wife Surabhi. How many men can be so ‘cool’ with the fact that they quit thier comfortable job and start a company and live on the income of his wife?
- Sanjay had to take up a part time job to support his family.
- Started a website (naukri.com) when internet is pretty new in India.
- Survived dot com bubble.
- Info Edge has become the first pure Indian dotcom to conduct a successful IPO.
If you are an entrepreneur, never quit. Answering a question on how long does one hang in there?, Sanjeev answers – “I could have quit anytime in the first 10 years, and I would have been a failed entrepreneur. Why did I keep going? Because I wasn’t chasing money. And if you chase something long enough, sooner or later you will get lucky. If you are really lucky then you will do it in 5 years, if you are moderately lucky then you will do it in 10 years, if you are terribly unlucky you will do it in 15 years.”
Author sums up: “There is no such thing as a failed entrepreneur. You are a failed entrepreneur only when you quit. Until then, you are simply not successful … yet.“
